Research has shown that there is a correlation between physical health/fitness and mental health. As a part of the counseling process, Sapphire Valley Wellness Center, LLC offers the opportunity to have physical exercise as part of the counseling session and the therapeutic process. The goal of this is to use improved physical fitness as a therapeutic tool toward mental wellness for those that it is appropriate for. Research has also shown that martial arts based self-defense training improves self-esteem, confidence, self-discipline, depression symptoms, and anxiety, especially when these symptoms are related to traumatic stress. Our martial-arts training program can be incorporated into the counseling process as well. The exercise/self-defense counseling is individualized to the client's personal mental and physical health goals, their current level of fitness, and how it affects their mental health. Each client that engages in this program will develop their counseling plan with our Licensed Professional Counselor who is also certified as an MMA Conditioning Specialist by the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Based on the client's physiological health, participation in this program may require medical clearance by a medical doctor.
